Target ID is cool to look at but not very accurate. The DFX seldom gives me the same ID if I sweep multiple times. It's a frustrating thing to look at an ID that shows both pulltab and ring. So which is it? The machine can't tell so why ID it? Seeing the pulltab on the meter makes me dumb down and walk over targets I know I should be digging. It's just too easy to say the heck with it and move on. But that's how you miss the nicest rings and gold jewelry. I do think that audio ID makes sense. Given a choice I'll go with audio over visual ID any day. I think I'll sell a few machines I don't use much and get a Sovereign GT. The Sovs have always been a favorite and the GT is hotter on gold. The audio ID is the best feature in my opinion.
