As I've posted over and over, my Mark I Ltd satisfies my need on land. It's not so great on wet/black sand at the beach. I usually ground-balance it on the dry sand and then hit the shore hoping for little black sand and shallow targets. I operate it in DISC as in ALL METALS the coil cannot be lowered to any usable height. George (Payne) or anyone with experience: are there any "tricks" in adjusting the detector for maximum efficiency? While I haven't experimented with various objects at various depths as I want to start hunting immediately, I don't think that I'm going to find coins/rings at any appreciable depth past a couple of inches. And unless it is a freshly shaken-off ring lying near the surface you'll never see me post that I found a gold ring at 7"-8" or more as I see some of you finding. So, is there anything I can do to make my machine a deeper finder IF there's something down there? I'm aware of the variables one encounters with jewelry such as size, thickness, composition, etc. I've been waiting for 23 years for a hurricane to hit Coney Island and remove all of that sand that's hiding the "millions" of coins, etc., that's been accumulating since the 1800s. But until then I ain't wasting my time there. El Niņo in L.A. in the early '80s removed ALL of the sand from the beaches except for about 1/4" and the goodies were locked in the clay(?) base under this bit of sand.
