Well I will contribute what I can....from personal use and hearsay from other users.
I have owned several Wison machines...although not the new one. most of the coin and relic machines basically act very very similar.
Wilson machines are a basic operating vlf motion machine. They do not have an all metal pinpoint...or most did not if I remember correctly...but they are such a slow sweep machine that pinpointing is easy.
they were designed to be able to pick through iron trash...in my understanding. They do this very well due to their disc cicuit and the ultra slow sweep.
Depth is on par with many modern units....especially in iron trash. The reported ability of being able to pick up a dime while being held in a pair of pliers is true. Although the question is would it disc out the dime lower due to target averaging from the iron. Alot of detectors can respond to a dimein similar situations but will ID them wrong. here it would be interesting to see if set at say tabs..would it not hit on the same dime in the pliers.
But I have seen my coin and relics do similar things and I know poeple who have simulated this and said it does work.
With the Northstar there were alot of quality issues and alot of guys really dumped on it due to these problems...when they worked they worked great.
As far as being able to disc out aluminum cans and still get quarters...this is also true from tests done on previous versions by individuals. Alot of detectors can't actually drop out soda cans and still get quarters and up as cans will fall right around silver halfs on most ID machines....there are exceptions though like the Explorer....and others. I think theolder Tesoro Toltecs will ID a soda can around zincs or so.
They are good machines for what they are designed for coin and relic in heavy trash. Far better than any modern tesoro unit going for example. They have as good if not better depth under dsicrimination than new Tesoro's and way quieter in iron. Even the Tejon is chirpy in iron. The wilson will be so quiet I had to keep checking it was on.
